The Carlow Whiskey Society recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to the heart of Dublin for a visit to the renowned Teeling Distillery, and what a day it was! Known for its innovative spirit and dedication to reviving Dublin’s historic whiskey-making tradition, Teeling offered an experience that combined history, craftsmanship, and, of course, incredible whiskey.

From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the distillery’s contemporary charm. Nestled in the Liberties, a neighbourhood once synonymous with whiskey production, Teeling is the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. Our guide began the tour by diving into this fascinating history, weaving tales of Dublin’s golden age of whiskey and the Teeling family’s role in bringing it back to life.

The production floor was a highlight, where we witnessed the whiskey-making process up close. From the mash tuns to the copper pot stills, it was fascinating to see how traditional techniques blend seamlessly with modern innovation. The sweet, malty aroma wafting through the air added an immersive sensory element to the tour.

Of course, no trip to Teeling would be complete without a tasting. In their cosy tasting room, we sampled a curated selection of their signature expressions, including the Teeling Small Batch with its rum-cask finish, the rich and spicy Single Grain, and the velvety smooth Single Malt. Each dram showcased the distillery’s creative flair, with unique flavours and finishes that set Teeling apart from the crowd.

For the Carlow Whiskey Society, this wasn’t just a tour; it was an experience that deepened our appreciation for Irish whiskey. The passion and innovation of Teeling left us inspired and, let’s be honest, eager to take a few bottles home.

The trip was a perfect blend of education, camaraderie, and indulgence—a true celebration of Ireland’s whiskey heritage.
